Edra Soto, 'Untitled'
screeprint on hand-dyed linen, 25" square
During a visit to Edra Soto's studio, we discovered a sketchbook related to Soto's Excess of Joy and Portraits of the Living series, in which she renders portraits of friends and family using stylization borrowed from afro-caribbean carving traditions, interweaving cultural lineages with personal narrative. For No Coast Editions, we selected two previously unrealized portraits of the artist's dogs, Foster and Sol. The wearable work, hand dyed on linen and printed using both bleach and color techniques, reflects Soto's playful send of humor and dedication to pattern and surface.
